- R.S.(Rashtriya Sanskrit) Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana affiliated to PSEB was established in the year 1951, with 61 students and 3 teachers, as a primary school in the compound of the Arya Samaj Mandir, Model town ,Ludhiana, with the aim of promoting Sanskrit, the language of Vedas and to inculcate Vedic Culture among the future citizens of India. It was upgraded to middle school in 1959 and to High school in 1965.
- Under the new Education Policy, school started 10+2 system for girls in 1987-88 which was extended for boys as well in 2001-02.
- In 1979 school shifted to its present complex sprawling over an area of 6 acres with well – lit class-rooms, state of the art, science and computer labs, three libraries with 18950 books, an auditorium, a Yajyashala to inculcate Vedic culture and vast play- grounds for field and track events .
- The school has strength of 4000 students and well qualified faculty of 180 teachers along with support staff that provides value based and quality education to future citizens of India.
- School was declared the Best School of the State by P.S.E.B.in 1984-85. In 2013, another all India level organization named “School Summit” declared our school as one of the Best 100 Schools of India.
- Sh. M.R. Mehta (Ex principal ) and Sh. M.L. Kalra (Director Academics) who have taken the school to this glory with their dedication and hard work are State and National Awardees.
- Mehta ji was honored with best teacher State Award in 1988 and National Award, in 1990 and Sh. Kalra ji received best teacher State Award in 1997 and National Award, in 1999.
- Our students got the honour to extend a traditional welcome to Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam during his visit to Ludhiana in 2003. 50 students and 5 teachers of the school had an audience with Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhawan on 8-Sep-2005. Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam addressed R.Sians once again, in Swami Dyanand Hall on 29-Aug-2014.
- NCC cadets of our School have the distinction of participating thrice in Republic Day Parade at Rajpath New Delhi for the last four years.
- School’s endeavor is not limited to academic development but has the aim of overall personality development of the students through sports, NSS camps, Vedic Shivir, Eco Club, JCI Club, cultural activities, debates and declamation contests etc.
- In 2012, Our Student Shehnaz Akhtar won second position in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and another student Ankush Sharma won the title of ‘Sur Sartaj’ in 2013. Jasmeet Kaur +2 student played a lead role in a Punjabi Movie.
- Performance of the School has been excellent in every field, be it academics, sports or co- curricular and extra-curricular activities. Every year, school gets huge applauds from media and State Education Board for excellent academic results. Our school students achieve positions in board examination and secure maximum number of merits.
- In 2014 X class Board Results, all the top three positions of the state and 18 state merits were secured by R S students in 10th class and 19 State merits in 12th class.
- In 2015 +2 Board results, Darshvir Kaur secured First position in annual Board Examination securing 100% marks in Non Medical, Sarvodya secured First position in annual Board Examination securing 98.67% marks in Commerce and Amanjot Kaur topped securing 99.33% marks in Medical
- In 2015 class X Board Results too, our school students secured 24 merits, highest among all the schools of Ludhiana city.
- In 2016 +2 Board results, Mahima Nagpal secured First position in annual Board Examination securing 99.56% marks and Monika (+2) stood First in state in Humanities group securing 96.89% marks.

- Commerce student Amisha Arora topped securing 98.44% marks.

- In class X Board Results too, our school students secured 16 merits, highest among all the schools of Ludhiana city.
- Education Minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, specially visited our school on 14th May, 2016 after the declaration of +2 Board result to felicitate the meritorious students of +2 class. In a function organized by Punjab State Education Board, Mohali, overall academic topper of +2, Mahima Nagpal and Humanities topper, Monica, were awarded a trophy and a cheque of Rs.1 Lakh each by the Chairperson Dr. Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal.
